About
Ian Liedke is an accomplished pianist and music director currently based in Buffalo, NY. He has over 20 years of experience playing the piano in a variety of different styles and graduated from SUNY Fredonia with a degree in Music Performance with a minor in Jazz Studies.
While Ian is very experienced in performing all genres of music, he is most well-known for performing jazz throughout Buffalo, NY, and parts of NYC. He is also an accomplished music director and has taken on this role for numerous shows including the La Grange Theatre's production of
Tintypes, in Woodstock, Vermont. Ian's teaching history includes teaching jazz at the Chautauqua Institute School and currently providing private lessons to a number of students in the WNY area.
Ian’s expertise has led him to be able to play keys for several musical productions. Ian was elected president of the famous student-run jazz program at SUNY Fredonia before they instituted a jazz program of their own. He has played alongside such artists as Arturo Sandoval, Cory Henry, and Bruce Johnstone.

Professional experience
Jazz Performance
- Performed at many high-end venues in Buffalo New York including Pausa Art House, the Buffalo and Saturn Club, and both the Lewsiton and Buffalo Jazz Festival.
- Played several jazz gigs in and around NYC during my time there.
- Worked with Bruce Johnstone and Dr. John Bacon while attending SUNY Fredonia and had the opportunity to perform with Cory Henry, Arturo Sandoval, and Bobby Militello.
- Currently playing in several jazz groups and developing both a trio and a few larger-sized groups.
Musicals
- Have been involved in over 25+ unique musicals in Buffalo and NYC from 2007-Present.
- Directed several musicals including at a regional theater with NYC actors and actresses.
- Extremely familiar with MainStage and playing many styles of shows. A list can be provided upon request.
Other Genres
- Have played in several wedding bands and pop groups as well as cocktail hour.
- Played at churches of various denominations for the better part of 5 years.
- Involved in a country band for a year as well as writing charts for the group.
EducatioN
B.A., MUSIC PERFORMANCE WITH MINOR IN JAZZ STUDIES
I graduated in 2015 from SUNY Fredonia with a degree in Music Performance and a minor in Jazz Studies. I was elected president of the well-known student-run jazz program at Fredonia and was involved in such ventures as the Notre Dame Jazz Competition, yearly tours of the Fredonia Jazz Ensemble, and bringing famous pianist and organist Cory Henry to run a master class. I was tasked with teaching a jazz improvisation class for two years during my junior and senior years there. I also taught piano lessons for two years while attending and continue to teach private lessons for various skill levels.
